Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" place. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. Many people believe that it is an island to the west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. However, this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. In her early years she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden expansion of her body made it impossible. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher that pushed her in the right direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the past 20 years, her work has been seen on the small and big screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her part as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was only seen on a few instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian actor.
